When you speak to executives or boards about AI, you’re not there to impress them with model architectures or tool names. You’re there to answer three questions:
- What are we doing with AI?
- Where are the risks?
- How are we in control?
DASUD gives you a simple structure for answering those questions.
Frame DASUD in business language
Start by explaining DASUD without jargon:
- Design How we decide which AI use cases to pursue and where we draw the line.
- Acquire What data, tools, and knowledge we allow AI to use, and how we vet them.
- Store How we protect and track the models, logs, and “memories” AI systems create.
- Use How we control day‑to‑day operation, oversight, and monitoring.
- Delete How we retire, roll back, or “forget” when things change or go wrong.
You can position this as “our AI lifecycle governance model”—parallel to what they already know from project, risk, or product lifecycles.
Lead with outcomes and exposure, not mechanics
Executives are focused on:
- Strategic outcomes Customer experience, efficiency, innovation, competitive positioning.
- Exposure Regulatory, reputational, operational, and ethical risks.
Organise your briefing around a few key advanced AI initiatives (GenAI, RAG, agents) and, for each:
- What value they aim to create.
- What could go wrong if unmanaged.
- How DASUD controls are applied at each stage.
Think in stories, not just lists.
Show one end‑to‑end example
Use a single, concrete example—like the IT Support Copilot from Day 25—to walk the board through DASUD:
- Design “We defined what this assistant can and cannot do, which systems it touches, who it serves, and what oversight mode applies.”
- Acquire “We only let it use approved knowledge bases and tools; no access to security or HR systems.”
- Store “Logs and vector stores are segmented; access is limited and logged.”
- Use “Suggestions are always reviewed by human analysts before tickets are closed.”
- Delete “We have re‑indexing and decommissioning plans; there is a kill switch if something goes wrong.”
This turns governance from abstraction into something they can visualise.
Connect to regulatory and risk expectations
Executives and boards also want to know: “How does this fit with what regulators expect?”
You can say:
- “DASUD is how we implement risk‑based governance across the AI lifecycle.”
- “At Design and Use, we handle human oversight and high‑risk decisions.”
- “At Acquire and Store, we align with our data governance, privacy, and security controls.”
- “At Delete, we meet lifecycle expectations—decommissioning, retention, and kill switches.”
Keep the mapping at a high level, but show that you’ve thought about it systematically.
Use simple, focused metrics
Bring a small set of KPIs (from Day 15) that matter at their level:
- How many AI systems we have in production, by risk tier.
- What percentage of high‑risk use cases have completed full DASUD reviews.
- Number of AI incidents in the last period and how they were handled.
- Coverage of oversight (e.g., % of required HITL approvals actually happening).
Explain what “good” looks like and where you want to improve.
Ask for specific decisions
End with clear asks, not just information:
- Endorsement Agreement that DASUD is the organisation’s AI lifecycle framework.
- Resourcing Support for specific investments (e.g., staff, tooling, training) tied to gaps you’ve identified.
- Guardrails Approval of certain red‑lines (e.g., no fully automated decisions in specific domains for now).
This turns the conversation from “here’s what we’re doing” into “here’s how you can help us do it responsibly at scale.”
Make it concrete
Before your next executive or board briefing:
- Pick one flagship AI system to use as your story.
- Build a single slide per DASUD stage summarising controls for that system.
- Add 4–6 metrics and 2–3 clear asks.
With that, you’ll have a narrative that respects their time, addresses their concerns, and positions you as the person who has a coherent plan for advanced AI governance.
