I knew the internet was getting worse. I thought it’s the field that I am in – data governance, that I started to see patterns that did not exist. My first blog dropped in ranking thanks to the 2020 pandemic. The state government bought the search term “domestic” and “traveller”. I saw my fun creative outlet drop in the search rankings. After 8 years of using SEO and keywords to grow my blog, I was heartbroken but came out the other side more determined. And then one of my favourite podcasters interviewed Cory Doctorow – the creator behind the term “enshittification”. I got mad, but that’s wasted energy – I was determined. Determined to help people take their power and choice back. And sure, whilst the overall system might be built to keep us distracted and less focused, there are ways where we can reduce their impact on us and not make it so easy for these conglomerates to make us part of the “matrix” where we are all so distracted and plugged in to our devices. This post and the subsequent ones in the series, is dedicated to the TAE class of Feb 2026!
